The Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (CLSSGB) course aims to develop the participants' knowledge and skills in the identification, understanding, cause analysis, reduction, and elimination of process and product wastes and variation, including creating programs, efforts or initiatives to ensure that none of these wastes and variations reoccur.  The course starts with the discussion of the various continuous improvement and quality programs in the company and a hands-on use of statistics to problems; then further to the in-depth use of lean kaizen, kaikaku and six sigma DMAIC methodologies.

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES

CERTIFICATION PROCESS:

Phase 1: Attend the instructor led workshop, fully participate and submit in-class activity outputs.

Phase 2: Complete the post-class assignments, essays and take home examinations.

Milestone 1:  Awarding of "Certified Continuous Improvement Practitioner" Credential.

Phase 3A: Propose and present a lean, lean six sigma project or a program implementation.

Phase 3B: Present the final project or program implementation paper.

Phase 4: Nievgen Internal Assessment and Audit Activities (Assessors' full evaluation of the competency based on recorded evidences)

Milestone 2:  Awarding of "Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt" Credential.


IDEAL PARTICIPANTS:      

Lean six sigma project team members, CI professionals, leaders, developers, software engineers, project supervisors, project managers, university students, call center professionals, quality professionals and other employees of the company.


OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, it is expected that the participants will be able to:

  • Understand how the various programs used in continuous improvement and quality, i.e. 5S, Just-Do-It, Kaizen, Kaikaku, Lean, Six Sigma, lean six sigma, and other programs are implemented.
  • Skillfully use foundational and advanced statistics to identify wastes and variation; and then later on use the same skills in solving the problem, including the use of it for controlling the process and products.
  • Master the use of Excel and Minitab in six sigma and other data driven projects and problem solving activities.
  • Develop an FMEA which is one tool for identifying, analyzing, controlling, mitigating and if possible, eliminating the likelihood of failure occurence.
  • Analyze various real world customer and consulting cases and experiences, when and where lean and six sigma thinking and projects where helpful in solving the problems.
  • Use Kaizen and Kaikaku at work or in the cases given by the instructor.
  • Use the DMAIC methodology to structurally solve a business, quality, customer, process or product problem.
  • Use GanttProject for lean six sigma project scheduling.

9. Use various management techniques to engage stakeholders to fully cooperate and support lean and six sigma initiatives.

 

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Answer and pass all homework/activities given by the instructor.

2. Actively participate in the class.

3. Full attendance to the sessions.

4. The candidate must commit to displaying good behaviors or conduct to the instructor and his peers.

5. Passing the MCQ final examination and the written essay.

 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:      

1. Online classes are delivered via ZOOM. Please install zoom.

Install GanttProject Software.  Other software that will be used in the class will be advised by the instructor on Day 01.

2. A laptop or desktop computer is required in the class.

3. For best training experience, you should have an extra viewing/extension monitor that you can connect and be placed adjacent to your laptop.

4. The participants must be computer-literate and must be able to use MS Excel.

5. All classes are recorded for learning, assessment and certification purposes.  In joining the class, you agree to be recorded by the Nievgen instructor.

6. The candidate shall TURN ON the CAMERA at all times.

 

CLSSYB IS NOT A REQUIREMENT

The CLSSGB course can be taken or enrolled in even without any CLSSYB training and certification.  While we do not restrict CLSSGB enrollees, it is highly recommended that participants engage in the CLSSYB course prior enrolling in CLSSGB.  For more information on CLSSYB, please visit the course page at https://www.nievgen.com/SSYB.html.


ENROLLMENTS REQUIRE APPROVAL OF NIEVGEN

Nievgen has the right to reject course enrollments if it sees that the enrollment of an individual or of a company is invalid, detrimental and against to the overall interests and internal policies of the company, i.e. intellectual property infringement, the knowledge acquired from the company shall be used to start another training company, knowledge/skill will be used for illegal acts or when the enrollee individual/ company is a competitor or potentially will become a competitor or when the enrollee is deemed unqualified to take the course due to prerequisite or due to professional decisions of the enrollment assessors and/or the enrollee showed unprofessional behaviors.  All enrollments to Nievgen undergoes audit prior the start of the class and requires the APPROVAL of the company, similar to other knowledge and competency centers. Immediate refund will be made to individuals or entities who paid during registration, but is declared as ineligible for enrollment.


AWARD AND REVOCATION

The certification is awarded to the successful participants after successful training and assessments, but the certification remains a property of the Nievgen.  The certification shall and may be revoked if the participant failed to demonstrate decent or professional behaviors, as according to the Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics of Nievgen, after a complaint has been issued and and an investigation is completed by Nievgen.  Nievgen deserves the full right to revoke the certification after due consideration of facts.

COMPETENCY INFORMATION

GB-01. Understand continuous improvement.

Discussion of 5S/6S/7S, Just-Do-it, Kaizen, Kaikaku, Lean, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Risk Management, Globalization, Diversification, Strategic Management, Hoshin Kanri, Agility, Business Transformation, Digitalization.  Calculate the no. of pass, no. of fail, yield or pass rate, defect rate, DPMO, sigma score, Cpk and interpret business performance based on the calculations.


GB-02. Perform statistical analysis using Minitab.

Calculate mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum, range, standard deviation, variance, Q3, Q1, interquartile range, kurtosis, skewness, normality and interpret data to tell the process and performance story.  Use Minitab to calculate for sigma score.  Use also Minitab to calculate sigma score, descriptive analysis, normality, create various graphs/charts and perform more statistical treatments.  The instructor shall also show "variation" and "wastes" via mathematical, numerical and graphical means.  Understand statistical process control (SPC) and capability analyses and create SPC charts.


GB-03. Complete DMAIC Project 1.

Explain the structured problem methodology DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control).  The Nievgen lean six sigma template will also be explained, including the two phases: proposal and final completion of the paper.  Participants and instructor will also collaborate on the discussion of a lean six sigma case study.  Participants are expected to identify the problem, determine baseline performance measures, create performance comparisons, determine and analyze problem causes via 5M+E, identify solutions and implement, measure new data after the solutions are implemented and determine strategies to control and sustain the improvement brought by the activities.


GB-04. Perform advanced statistical analysis.

Activities include normality testing and hypothesis testing for comparison of means and medians.  Activities include the comparisons via One Sample Z, One Sample T, Paired T, Two Sample T, One Way Anova, Fisher, Tukey, Dunnett, HSU MCB, General Linear Model, Simple Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Multivariable Regression, One Sample Sign, One Sample Wilcoxon, Mann Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Mood's Median Test, Friedman Test.  Use the advanced statistical techniques to determine if the new performance is statistically equal, better or worse.


GB-05. Create failure mode & effects analysis.

Create an FMEA analysis for a certain process.  Identify failure modes, impact to process, causes and effect, score severity, likelihood, detection and calculate RPN.  Identify detection, control and mitigation plans, including projects to lower the RPN.  At the end of the discussion, it is expected that the participants will understand the role of FMEA in achieving six sigma.


GB-06. Perform measurement systems analysis.

Perform proper qualification of measurement tools to minimize variations contributed by tools or operators.  Perform Type 1 Gage Study, create gage run charts, perform bias and linearity study, repeatability and reproducibility studies (GRR).


GB-07. Perform Design of Experiment.

Perform design of experiments and understand the impact of the technique in understand and creating optimized results.  Also determine root cause of the issue by using the DOE.  Full factorial, partial factorial and Taguchi methods will be explained and will be performed by the candidates.


GB-08. Demonstrate Kaizen and Kaikaku.

The candidates will be asked to visit a store, shop, website or even analyze their process in the business to determine wastes and identify the necessary improvement to eliminate or reduce wastes and variation.  The participants will also be asked to identify what invention or innovation will best work for the processes.


GB-09. Perform Lean Project 1.

The candidates will be taught on how to fill up the Nievgen Lean Template paper.  They will be given a case and they will analyze the case to determine opportunities for cost savings and other lean benefits.


GB-10. Manage lean six sigma project.

The candidates will propose and manage a lean six sigma project and or implement a full CI program in the company in demonstration and application of their learnings in the class.  This is the final requirement to obtain the CLSSGB credential.


GB-11. Use GanttProject for scheduling.

The participants will create their six sigma project schedule using GanttProject.


GB-12. Manage stakeholder engagement.

The participants will understand group, team and political dynamics in managing six sigma projects.  The objective of the topic is to ensure that the candidates' stakeholders will effectively engage and support lean six sigma projects and initiatives.
